The 2023 world champion had an exceptional season, notably winning the Ralph Vigen Memorial aggregate title and the championship at the Grande Prairie Stompede, honoring his grandfather. 

 

At the Ponoka Stampede, he broke a 62-year-old record by claiming all 6-day monies in a dominant performance. A remarkable track record run at the Battle of the Rockies secured his third show title of the season.

 

In a record-breaking feat, he clinched his first career world chuckwagon championship, capping off a truly spectacular year.

He is a 3-time show winner on the WPCA pro tour, with his biggest win at the Grande Prairie Stompede in 2018. He has had four horses named to the WPCA equine outfit of excellence and won the Herman Flad Memorial Award for most improved driver in 2012.

 

His 2023 season was highlighted by an appearance in the championship final eat at the Ponoka Stampede, runner-up at the Battle of the Rockies, and a semi-final appearance at the Battle of the Foothills.

 

29 top-ten runs in 2023, and a third place overall in the world standings tied his career best.

LAYNE MACGILLIVRAY

The 2023 season was a memorable one. At the 2023 Calgary Stampede, Layne received the prestigious Guy Weadick Award and won his first career Calgary Stampede Rangeland Derby Championship at the 100th anniversary of chuckwagon racing - the only chuckwagon driver to win both in a single year.

 

He had additional wins at Century Downs taking the "winner's zone" championship and aggregate champion as well. He was the 2022 world champion chuckwagon driver, the first chuckwagon driver to reach 1500 points in a single season.

JAMIE LABOUCANE

In his inaugural full season with the WPCA, he won dual show championships at the Medicine Hat Exhibition & Stampede and the Battle of the Foothills.

 

He claimed aggregate victories at the Battle of the Foothills and the Battle of the North. His horse "Marshmallow" was champion Left Wheeler at both the 2023 Calgary Stampede and on the 2023 WPCA Pro Tour.

 

Heading into the finals, he was tied for the world standings lead, culminating in a thrilling battle for the championship, where Jamie became the reserve champion by a mere 3 points.

Ethan Motowylo

2023 was his first career world Outriding championship in addition to this, Ethan was a part of show victories at the Grande Prairie Stompede, the Ponoka Stampede, and the Battle of the Rockies with Chanse Vigen, as well as the Bonnyville Chuckwagon Championship with his father Obrey Motowylo.

 

Ethan is a two-time recipient of the Rod Glass Memorial Award – WPCA’s most improved outrider, was the WPCA Top Rookie Outrider in 2016, and won his first Calgary Stampede Rangeland Derby Championship behind Kris Molle in 2022.

JASON GLASS

Hailing from a distinguished racing family, he is one of the most accomplished chuckwagon drivers.

 

A four-time world champion chuckwagon driver, he won the Calgary Stampede Rangeland Derby in 2013 and secured the Richard Cosgrave Memorial Trophy four times as the Calgary Stampede aggregate winner. The 1998 Ponoka Stampede champion, his 2023 season shone with his second consecutive and third career WPCA clean drive award.

 

His outriding horse "Ed" earned WPCA Champion outriding honors, marking his ninth WPCA equine award - a WPCA record.
